Belper daredevils can take part in charity abseil the Peak District Drop from the Miller’s Dale Viaduct on Saturday, May, 24 in aid of Red Cross Week. See www.redcross.org.uk/peakdistrictdrop.
Due to popular demand, charity fancy-dress abseil the Peak District Drop will return to Miller’s Dale Viaduct near Tideswell on Saturday 24 May in aid of Red Cross Week – and daredevils are needed to take part!
Following a successful event last October, the British Red Cross is again calling for daredevils from Derbyshire to take on the 80ft free-abseil in aid of their annual fundraising extravaganza – with fancy dress strongly encouraged.
The abseil is open to anyone aged over 16 brave enough to take on the challenge of dropping over the edge of the viaduct, descending just 10ft touching brick before stepping off and free-abseiling the remaining 80ft over the rushing River Wye with just ropes and a harness for support.
One participant from last year, Mike Tighe, took on the challenge in a cow onesie. He said: ‘I’m terrified of heights and this is absolutely not for the faint-hearted! The rush of adrenaline you get when you step through the fence with nothing but a rope between you and a big drop down is phenomenal – I was petrified, but I did it! It certainly added an air of weirdness taking part dressed as a cow, and it was loads of fun to do it alongside someone dressed as Marilyn Monroe, among others!’
The charity has a limited number of places available and anyone interested in taking part is invited to contact Alex Gadsby, community fundraiser for Derbyshire, for more information as soon as possible. No prior preparation or training is needed, as all instruction will be given by professional abseilers on the day. All participants will receive dedicated support including a comprehensive fundraising pack full of fun and creative ideas to help them reach their fundraising target, as well as a bespoke online fundraising page and one to one contact.
The British Red Cross asks that all participants raise £100 and there is a £10 registration fee.
Participants can sign up at www.redcross.org.uk/peakdistrictdrop or contact Alex Gadsby on 01158 528016 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
