Date set for site transformation
WORK to demolish the Fuchs site in Belper is expected to start next month.
Plans by Bimoto Developments to transform the former oil refinery site into a hotel, restaurant, offices and homes were approved by Amber Valley Borough Council in June.
And now the development has been given the go-ahead by the Government.
Company spokesman David Harrison hopes work on the site will now be able to start in September.
He said: "We've been geared up to work on the site but we couldn't do so until we'd got clearance from the Government.
"We're really pleased to say we've got that now - we believe it's testament to the quality of the plans and to way they were handled by Amber Valley Borough Council's planning department.
"We're now finalising the section 106 agreement for the development which we hope to have in place by the end of the month.
"We're looking to start work to demolish and regenerate the site in September."
It is proposed to convert the former warehouse and cottage into a hotel, restaurant and offices.
The 94 new homes will be a combination of three and four storey apartments and two storey houses.
