Donations boost plans for residential centre
Plans to set up a residential centre for autistic adults have been given a boost after another donation from a group.
Holbrook Opportunities for Placement and Employment (HOPE), which is behind plans for the new centre, was given a donation of 200 by Belper Masonic Benevolent Association.
The Rotary Club of Belper and Duffield, and Hazelwood-based chemical company Lubrizol Ltd have also made donations.
HOPE was set up by staff at the Holbrook School for Autism in a bid to help create job opportunities for people with autism when they leave. t
Holbrook student Lenny Welford, 17, and his dad, Dave, aim to raise 10,000 for the charity, which needs around 100,000 to get off the ground.
They have already raised 7,000 through a 33-mile sponsored walk from Bamford to Belper, which took place on June 20 and donations can be accepted for three months after the walk.
Dave, 47, said: "We're very grateful for this generous donation from the Masons. It will help to raise awareness about the lack of provision for autistic adults which is sadly lacking in Derbyshire."
To donate to the fund click here before Sunday, September 20.
