Festival hailed a 'massive success'

Belper Music Festival was hailed a massive success after attracting bumper crowds at the weekend.

Fifteen bands played at the three-day event, which was held at Belper Rugby Club from Friday until Sunday.

Music fans travelled from far and wide to make the most of the atmosphere and great bands, which included Belper favourites the Re-Entrants and Riptide, plus acts from further afield.

Acid folk-punk band Wholesome Fish and folk act Hedgepig were two of the favourite acts, said a fan from Birmingham.

Headliners Chumbawamba and Neverland also went down a storm.

The fan said: "It's certainly an undeniable fact that every band was absolutely top notch."

Tim Cox, who organised the festival, said: "It was brilliant. The weather was brilliant, the bands were brilliant, and everybody had a really good time. It was the best year ever."

Tim predicted around 500 music fans came to the event on Sunday, with only slightly less on the other two days.

Wes Hickman, clubhouse manager at the rugby club, said: "It was a huge success."

The event went without incident, according to police. A spokesman said: "It all went very peacefully."

Planning for next year's festival will be getting underway soon.
