Youth charity champion Andrea Fox has rubbed shoulders with Samantha Cameron, Olympians and TV stars after being nominated for a top award.
The 52-year-old was invited to number 10 after being named as one of just five finalists in the Daily Mail’s Inspirational Women Awards for her work setting up the town’s Drop Inn Centre.
And after joining the PM’s wife for coffee, she attended a gala dinner at the Marriott Hotel in London’s Grosvenor Square.
She said: “The two days in London I was treated like royalty, everyone was so nice, especially the other finalists. The judges must have had a terrible time deciding who to award number one to.
“We were taken to 10 Downing Street had coffee and spent an hour with Mrs Cameron who was lovely - she was so interested in all our stories and made us really welcome.
“We had a tour of No 10 which was very interesting - I love history and buildings - what an experience, I sat in the Prime Minister’s chair and sat round his meeting table!
“I didn’t win the holiday but I feel like a winner anyway being one of the five national finalists. “
Among the stars at the awards were Strictly judge Darcey Bussell; Olympic gold medal rowers Anna Watkins, Katherine Grainger and Sarah Storey as well as Craig Revel Horwood and Kristina Rihanoff.
Andrea continued: “The awards ceremony was a really glitzy affair, full of celebrities, with a wonderful dinner, a real red carpet do at the Marriot Hotel in Grosvenor Square, again myself and the other finalists were made to feel special.
“The next day we spent the day in Sanctuary Spa (sponsors of the awards) which was out of this world.
“I have always wanted to go to a spa, this went beyond what I had imagined. We had two treatments throughout the day and use of the pools.
“Overall a most wonderful once in a lifetime experience.”
