Fifteen Belper firms banded together to raise £600 for a town centre community centre at an action-packed race night.

Employees and punters packed into the Strutts Community Centre on Derby Road to cheer on their steeds during the event on Saturday, March 29.

More than 50 people got involved, with winners being presented with cash prizes and treated to a bottle of Cava in their very own winners’ enclosure.

And local businesses helped make the night a success by sponsoring the individual races.

Anne Sadler, of Strutts events committee, said: “The events committee would like to thank
everyone who came for the fun-filled evening,
including Amber Valley
Rotary who ran the event with their wonderful
technical wizardry.

“The evening was heavily sponsored by local businesses who helped to make it such a success. Overall sponsor was Bluebird Care while other businesses sponsored individual races, part of the supper, printing of the programme and presentation of bottles of Cava to winning horse owners.

“People were really shouting for their horse and there was a very lively atmosphere.”

Race sponsors included Hall of Frames, I Should Cocoa cafe, The Gate House Tearooms, Flowgro/Flowair, Belper Party Cakes and Hunter, Jones and Alton.

The Ritz Cinema, Beaurepaire Patisserie, Howarth’s, Nonno’s restaurant and the Lion Hotel also sponsored bubbly for winners; raffles prizes came from The Millhouse and The Tavern while Lockwoods donated food and the programme was provided by 45 Degrees Design and Print.
