First class revamp at store

Villagers are being consulted on a plan to move Holbrook Post Office into the nearby village store.

The proposed move is part of a “major modernisation programme” across the Post Office network designed to “make it easier for customers to do business”, through longer opening hours and open plan environments.

The branch is currently located at 30 Chapel Street, Holbrook and the proposed new location is 50 metres away at Holbrook Village Store, 61 Chapel Street.

Should the move go ahead, the branch would open Monday to Saturday from 7am -7pm; and 7pm to 1pm on Sundays.

A spokesman for the Post Office pointed out this would be an extra 42 hours and 30 minutes per week than is currently offered and included Wednesday and Saturday afternoons and Sunday morning. The branch would also open earlier and close much later every day and mark the end to lunchtime closing.

A six-week consulation on the plan has been launched - ending in mid-February.

Post Office Regional Network Manager for England South, Adrian Wales, said: “We understand how important Post Office services are to residents in Holbrook and we are confident that this new modern branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”

He added: “The proposed changes to the branch are part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches and this investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

“Post Office local” offers Post Office services from an open-plan counter alongside retail products during shop opening hours.

The combination has allowed Post Office services to be available for longer at various other locations up and down the country - offering “greater convenience” to customers.

During the public consultation, Post Office Ltd is encouraging feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken on this proposal.

The consultation will close on February 18.
