Grit lorries are out in force in Derbyshire
FREEZING rain and snow is creating hazardous driving conditions say Derbyshire County Council.
The authority’s gritters started treating the county’s secondary routes at 8am this morning and when these are finished it plans to re-grit the primary routes.
The council says the gritters will work round the clock while the adverse weather conditions continue. The amount of grit put down has been increased.
It also says freezing rain is difficult to combat as it settles as ice over the top of grit, making it less effective. Drivers and pedestrians are warned to take extra care.
Between 2 and 5 cm of snow is forecast by the end of the day.
