Groups showcase

Ripley University of the 3rd Age (U3A) has held an open afternoon to showcase the groups that are running across the area.

Set up as a local, not-for-profit, self-help organisation and though only in its third full year, it already has over 200 members and runs some 20 interest groups ranging from Wild Flowers, Marquetry, Wine Appreciation and Conversational French to Walking, Art Appreciation, Genealogy and Quilting.

It is for people who are semi-retired and retired but who wish to continue learning and broaden their interests, or share their expertise with others of a

like mind. The event, at St. Joseph’s RC Church Hall, Ripley, was specifically to et prospective and new members see the range of available activities, chat with the organisers of those activities and join the group if they wished. It was well attended by prospective members as well as new and long standing members who all appreciated the friendly open atmosphere as well as the informative discussions.

The list of groups currently available is: Art appreciation; Computers; Creative Writing; Dining; Digital Photography; Drawing & Painting; French Conversation (Multiple); Gardening; Genealogy;

Local History; Marquetry; National Trust & Museums; Quilting; Reading; Rummikub; Theatre Visits; Transport & Railway; Wine Appreciation; Walking;

Wild Flowers.
