Guides awards

Middleton Hall in Staffordshire was the historic venue chosen for the presentation of the Chief Commissioners’ Awards. The day was arranged in two halves to accommodate all of the counties that make up Midlands Region, the Derbyshire award winners (pictured above) arrived at midday to a drinks reception and buffet lunch giving everyone the chance to mingle and chat and relax a little before the award ceremony.

Beautifully decked out ready for Christmas the hall in front of the magnificent main staircase was the venue for the presentations, with each County Commissioner introducing the award winner with a short summary giving the reasons for the nomination from grass roots level, prior to them ascendingthe staircase to receive the badge and certificate from Sally Illsley, Midlands Region Commissioner.

Hearing the amazing service to Girl Guiding UK and the contributions of all the recipients was both inspiring and humbling, with many grass roots guiders running not just one but two or three units and fitting in commitments with family life and work.
