Happy thoughts for young actors
Happiness was the theme for children from the Learning Though Drama group as they prepared for a performance of a famous Oscar Wilde play.
The youngsters took part in a three-day workshop and then performed The Happy Prince at Fleet Arts Centre in front of parents.
Hetty Robinson, from Learning Through Drama, said: "The children brought in items from home that make them happy – one girl brought in mayonnaise."
In the play the happy prince looks out over a city and sees all that is wrong with it. He takes gold leaves and gives them to the poor. In this modern version the children had to think about Derbyshire and what is wrong with it. They came up with things such as litter and pollution.
Learning Through Drama sessions takes place at Long Row school on Wednesday evenings between 5pm and 6pm.
