Heage Windmill gets a lady miller
THE newest recruit at Heage Windmill has brought the attraction an interesting accolade.
Holly Wheat, one of two new millers at the 200-year-old mill, has become the only female miller working in a traditional mill in the whole of the UK.
Holly has taken on the role of flour miller, and she has already managed to produce hundreds of kilograms of flour, especially on windy days.
Holly, 39, flour miller Anthony Sharpe, along with freewheeler Tony Cooper, began their new roles after their qualifications were endorsed at the latest meeting of the mill's board of trustees.
Mill spokesman Alan Gifford said: "As far as we know, Holly is the only lady miller in the country producing flour in a traditional windmill."
