An incoming plane which was escorted into Manchester airport by the RAF over fears that a device was on board today circled near to Belper.

Greater Manchester Police said the RAF involvement came “as a result of information received by the pilot about a possible device on board”.

The flight path of QR23 was tracked live on the website www.planefinder.net and appeared to pass over Hulland Ward and close to the village of Turnditch while circling Ashbourne.

Greater Manchester Police treated the incident as a “full emergency”. A man was later arrested on suspicion of making a hoax bomb threat.
