Kestrel snapped in Belper

An amateur photographer who has been tracking a kestrel has captured these pictures.

Guy Atkinson, from Heage, had been trying to get a picture of the bird for two weeks, after spotting it in Belper. He finally caught up with it on Laund Hill.

The 45-year-old said: "I have not seen one in the area before and it is a road I always use. I have been following him around for the last two weeks.

"Just the other day I came up the hill after shopping in Belper and he was sitting on a sign post at the side of the road. I pulled over pretty quickly and started taking pictures, I think he may be a youngster because he seemed oblivious to any potential danger and was just sitting there on top of a school sign.

"He took quite a lot of interest in me and let me get very close. It was amazing to see one up so close."
