Man killed in A38 smash is named

A man has been killed in a smash on the A38 at Kilburn.

Russell Garbett, from Sutton-in Ashfield, suffered fatal injuries when his Piaggio 125cc scooter collided was involved in the collision with three vans and a lorry at around 6.50am this morning.

The 48-year-old was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital, but later died from his injuries.

He was part of two groups of riders who had been travelling towards Derby at 50 mph, police have said.

The A38 southbound was closed until noon while police tried to determine the cause of the collision, diverting traffic through Belper town centre and causing delays.
