Masons boost cadet training funds

Freemasons in Belper have donated £2,500 to help further the training of the town’s army cadet force.

The group handed over a cheque which will help fund adventure pursuits for the young soldiers, aged between 12 and 18 years.

Martin Harris, past master of the Belper Freemasons, said: “The donation, which was raised through contributions by the local freemasons will be used to support a number of activities including a forthcoming ski trip by the cadets.

“After short introduction about how the money was raised the cheque was presented by Richard Moss of the Belper Masonic Benevolent Association to Major Gary Newbury from C Company, Derbyshire Army Cadet Force.”

The Belper Detachment gives recruits the opportunity to learn and engage in everything from shooting to first aid and field craft.
