Most main roads in area are clear, but drivers warned to take care and allow extra time
MOST major roads in the area were clear today after the weekend snowfall.
There were warnings to be careful though, as there were some patches of black ice, with drivers urged to allow extra time for their journeys, especially when using minor roads.
Weather experts have said today will be overcast with widespread mist and low cloud. There would also be some areas of fog across Derbyshire. There was also the chance of outbreaks of light rain or sleet.
Tonight there were due to be a few light sleet or snow showers, but generally it would remain dry, with mist. Again there would be fog in many areas.
If you have taken pictures of the snow then send them to us. We would love to see them.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10:26 PMIn a sudden change of direction I'm going to praise Amber ValleyDerbyshire County CouncilWhoever. King Street was cleared of snow pretty quickly and efficiently, as was Field Lane car park, seen plenty of activity from that little John Deere buggy! This is in contrast to Saturday night, when, foolish expecting main roads to be clear, it took me 1 hour 50 minutes to get from Chesterfield Road in Belper to Chaddesden, a journey that normally takes 13 minutes! So well done to our local lot. I bet you never thought you'd hear me say that!

Does a sentence including the words 'eggs', 'grandma', 'suck' and 'teach' spring to mind? What's next - an instruction manual given out with every roll of Andrex? These warnings are nothing but basic common sense which will be observed by the vast majority of drivers. However, there will still be a percentage who, in the mornings, will leave the house at the same time as normal regardless of the weather conditions and expect to drive to work at the usual speed because they haven't had the gumption to check the weather forecast the previous day. Never underestimate the stupidity of the Great British public.
