MP pledges to continue free school meals fight

Belper MP, Pauline Latham, has pledged her commitment to free school meals – after a study showed nearly a third of disadvantaged children in her constituency are missing out.

Last week, research by the Children’s Society showed there were 400 youngsters from low income families in Mid Derbyshire who were still paying for their food at school. The society urged people to contact their MP to support their call to make free school meals available to all children in poverty.

There are thought to be 500 missing out inHigh Peak and 400 inDerbyshire Dales.

Mrs Latham said “My background in education campaigning is what brought me into politics and therefore I passionately believe that no child should go hungry at school.

“I strongly support the Government’s commitment to ensuring that free school meals continue to be available to the families who need them most.”
