Photo contest: church at dusk is unmistakable

editorial image

The sun dips behind Belper’s Grade II listed Christ Church in this latest entry for our Specsavers Life Thru the Lens competition.

The shot of the mid-19th century Anglican place of worship was taken by Julie Fletcher, of Windmill Rise, Belper.

In describing why she was inspired to take the snap Julie said the church was “unmistakable in the silhouette”.

She also submitted pictures of Crich Stand, the Belper, skyline and one of the town’s winding back alleys.

Among the shots already put forward for the contest by other amateur photographers are images of Heage Windmill, Belper Food Fair, Belper Hill Top, Black Rocls at Cromford the River Derwent and the River Gardens.

We’ve teamed up with Specsavers in the town for the fourth year running to find the best amateur photographers in the Belper area, with the winner receiving the latest digital SLR camera.

Anyone can enter the competition – you don’t have to have a top of the range camera or brand new kit, just an eye for a great shot – you could even take them on your mobile phone!

We want to see pictures which get to the heart of what the Belper area is all about, in your opinion. We want you to show us how beautiful the town and surrounding villages really are.

It could be the history behind the mills, the community spirit which brings the Strutts Centre to life, or a fun event being held in the River Gardens. The limit is your imagination!

Winning this competition could be a dream come true for any amateur snapper wanting to become that little bit more proficient at their art — because of the fantastic first prize.

Up for grabs is a £300 SLR digital camera.

Second prize is a digital camera worth £100, while third prize is a pair of free designer glasses at Specsavers.

Whatever you choose as your inspiration, make sure you get your entries in to be in with a chance of winning.

Once all entries are submitted the judges, including Belper News Editor Julie Crouch and officials from Specsavers will meet to choose the finalists, which we will publish in the paper, with the winners announced at a ceremony soon afterwards.
