A family from Pinxton have been left bewildered after discovering the face of a saint on the underside of a garden ornament.
Margaret Maughan, 53, of Hilltop Road, Pinxton made the incredible discovery when one of her light up garden ornaments stopped working, upon taking it down to replace the batteries she noticed that there were strange marks on the underside, and upon closer inspection she saw what she thought looked like a woman wearing a veil.
“I couldn’t believe it when I saw it, I immediately called my daughter over and asked her what she saw when she looked at the marks on the bottom of the ornament, she said agreed with me that it looked like a ladies face.
“What makes it even stranger is the fact that all of the other identical hanging lights that are dotted around the garden were absolutely fine except this one which bares the mark.”
Margaret then took a photograph of the mysterious face and consulted her family and friends for a second opinion.
Without telling them what she believed it looked like they all said exactly the same thing, that it looked like a veiled woman.
With the verdict in, she then travelled to Mount Saint Bernard Abbey in Coalville, Leicestershire with a photograph of the face to consult Father Terence who informed her that it was in fact Catholic Saint Therese of the Roses that had appeared, he then gave her a small figurine of Saint Therese to take away (Pictured).
Following the encounter Margaret met with a local nun from Alfreton who immediately confirmed what others had said, and advised that Margaret throw holy water down the ornament.
“People must think I’m mad when I tell them that there’s the face of a veiled woman on the ornament, but when they see it themselves they’re taken aback and agree that they can see exactly the same thing.”
