Crich Lane Festival Garden in Belper could be handed over for use as a growing space for the local community.
The town’s Transition Belper group is investigating whether there is support for the idea and is urging people to attend an open day seeking local views on the plan.
The gardens were once a landfill waste site so extensive testing would be needed before edible fruit, veg and herbs could be grown, the group said.
Proposed options for its development include raised beds for fruit and vegetables and a wildflower garden to encourage wildlife, bees and butterflies.
The open day runs from 11am to 3pm on Sunday, September 7, where there will be some free refreshments.
Anyone who is unable to attend can complete an online survey at www.transitionbelper.org or email firstname.lastname@example.org
