Police move to halt burglaries

An attempted burglary in Duffield has prompted police to hold a home security event.

PCSO Paula Bennett and PCSO Scott Hunt held a special crime prevention day at Ecclesbourne Close Community Centre.

The event was set up to offer residents advice and support following an attempted break-in at a property on Ecclesbourne Close on Tuesday, January 22.

Police officers and PCSOs have also been visiting residents to offer advice and crime prevention surveys where necessary following a number of other burglaries in the area.

PCSO Paula Bennett, of the Duffield, Belper Rural and Holloway Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Although Duffield is a safe place to live, we want to make sure that people are aware of the things they can do to help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.”

Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood policing teams are currently working alongside the Amber Valley Community Safety Partnership to help older and more vulnerable residents feel safe and secure in their homes.

Further crime prevention events are also being planned in other parts of the Amber Valley.

Councillor Chris Short, Amber Valley Borough Council Cabinet member of Safe and Secure Places to Live said: “I am aware of the level of distress crimes of this type can cause and it remains a priority of the Community Safety Partnership to combat offences of this nature.

“The recent work of the local Safer Neighbourhood policing team is an excellent example of this.”
