Preventing crime over festive season

A special ‘Lock up’ event is being held in Belper to help people stay safe and secure during the run up to Christmas.

The event, which takes place on King Street from 11am until 2pm on Wednesday, December 11, will give people advice on crime prevention, safety, counterfeit goods and anti-social behaviour.

It has been organised by Amber Valley Community Safety Partnership and includes Belper Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Derbyshire Trading Standards and Neighbourhood Watch.

Free crime prevention equipment will be on offer including door chimes, light timers, personal attack alarms, safe cans and purse chains.

Councillor Chris Short, cabinet lead on Community Safety for Amber Valley Borough Council said: “We’re pleased to be able to bring together the many different agencies which can help local residents to stay safe and secure, especially during the busy festive period.”
