Pub-goers in Turnditch could see their favourite local recreated on a Brazil beachfront forthis Summer’s World Cup.
The Tiger Inn on Ashbourne Road is currently sixth in the ‘put your pub on plane to Rio’ competition sponsored by McCoys crisps.
The winning pub - selected by a celebrity judging panel, including comedian Al Murray - will be recreated complete with all the comforts and interior decoration from the original for the tournament in June.
The landlord will also be flown out for the Grand Opening.
To be in with a chance the pub needs more votes to get into the top five of a league table. After voting closes on March 21, people will then be given the chance to win one of 40 trips to the World Cup by purchasing promotional packs in stores.
Top of the league table is a pub in Kingswinsford. The Tiger Inn is the only pub in Derbyshire to feature in the top 20.
Mr Murray said: “Of course, this year it’s all eyes on Brazil – land of beaches, sunshine, samba and the rest. An exotic earthly paradise you might think.
“But there’s one thing missing – the British pub.”
