PUPILS and parents rolled up their sleeves at Crich Junior School for a family bake-off to celebrate a prestigious award.

The school has achieved the Food for Life Partnership Gold award — one of only 17 schools to do so in the country — for creating a healthy, sustainable and enjoyable food culture.

The bake-off saw pupils and parents team up to create cakes, which will be sold off in aid of Sport Relief. Head teacher Cheryl Julian said: “I’m delighted that we have achieved gold. Our pupils are empowered to make informed food choices and gain the skills to grow and cook food for themselves and their families.”

The winning bakers were Lauren Spencer, Charlie Travers, Oliver Bostock and Emily Field. Judge Andrew Auld, of Crich bakery The Loaf, said: “I love getting involved with food-related initiatives. It’s so important children understand where good food comes from and how it is made.”
