Squadron is best of the best
Hard work, good attendance and community spirit have all been worth it for Belper's Army Cadets, who have been crowned best of the best in Derbyshire.
The group, which meets twice a week in the hall on Cluster Road, beat competition from more than 30 other detachments to walk away with the Lucas Tooth award.
The award recognises the work put in by a group over the year. Points are collected over the year for various things including attendance, competitions and community work, and added up at the end of the year.
Detachment Commander Lt Dave Chambers said: "This award is nice because it's been won by everybody, for everybody. They have all contributed to
it in some way or other. It very much belongs to all of them. It's a real achievement."
The detachment, which has 40 male and female members, has been running in the town for decades.
Members range from 12 years to 18 years of age.
