Holbrook St Michaels FC’s first team marked the presentation of their new kit in spectacular style on Saturday by hammering visitors Blackwell MW 6-1.

The kit has been paid for by The Tavern public house, based on Derby Road, Belper. The club and the pub have enjoyed a flourishing relationship in recent times with The Tavern providing some sponsorship last season while the club’s players and officials go there for after-match refreshments. It will also be the venue for the club’s race night, on Saturday, December 1.

Holbrook St Michaels’ chairman, Geoff Hartshorn, said: “We are very grateful to all at the Tavern for this kind of support. It’s absolutely vital for a club such as ours to get support from the local community – and business community. There is a lot said at national level about getting funding into football at grassroots level, but it’s far from easy sometimes if you are just running men’s teams.

“So we are very appreciative of what the Tavern is doing with this kind of support.”

Saturday’s game in the Central Midlands League Black Dragon South Division marked the first in charge for new manager Steve Palumbo and his assistant Chris Bridges. Goals came from Tarik Harvey, Dan Sharp, James Stewart, Luke Tozer, Chris Saunders and an own goal.

This Saturday, they are away to Newark Town.
