Top honour for volunteer

A CRICH Tramway Museum volunteer who met his wife at the venue has been hailed as Best Volunteer in an awards scheme organised for Derbyshire tourist attractions.

Alan Barber, 59, said he was "thrilled to bits" with the accolade, which comes after 20 years hard work at the museum.

He said: "It is a real honour to be the recipient of this award."

Alan has been a member of the Tramway Muesum Society since 1990, helping out with roles including duty inspector and chief project officer.

Judges said he was chosen for the award because of his great love and dedication for the museum.

They said: "He very much enjoys talking to visitors and ensuring that they have a good time. He has a flair for enthusing and inspiring others."

Alan received his award in a ceremony at Chatsworth House in Bakewell.

He was joined by his wife, Ruth, who he met at the museum in 1996.
