Town was full of fabulous food!

Exotic aromas filled the air on Sunday as dozens of stallholders plied their wares at the town's annual food festival.

Cheese, cupcakes, olives and pies were just a few of the foodstuffs on offer from more than 60 stalls, which took over the town centre.

Thousands of people milled around to take a look at what the Belper Town Council-organised festival had to offer. Council staff said they thought it was the busiest the festival has been in its four year history.

A few downpours throughout the day did little to diminish the spirits of people in the town throughout the day. Town residents joined people travelling from further afield to enjoy the event.

Belper resident Sarah McMullen said: "I think the food festival is a brilliant combination of everything the community can achieve if it works together."

Several shops in the town centre broke with tradition and opened for the day on Sunday, including M & Co, Claire's Beautiful Beads, and Oxfam.

Local groups also provided entertainment for the day, Folk Friendzy and members of the Splitz Dance School performed in King Street, and several acoustic bands entertained crowds in the Memorial Gardens, which housed craft stalls for the first time in the festival's history.

To top off the excitement of the day the food festival enjoyed a star turn from former Coronation Street actor Sean Wilson, who played Martin Platt.

The actor, who opened the festival, now runs the Saddleworth Cheese Company.
