Trio are named as top dogs at Crufts 2013
A Belper facilities maintenance manager and Tinchy, an 18-month-old Miniature Pinscher, proved every dog does have its day after walking away with a top prize at Crufts.
Tinchy was one of over 25,000 dogs at Birmingham’s NEC, presented by the Kennel Club, which is celebrating 140 years of promoting healthy, happy dogs, and claimed the prestigious Best of Breed award last weekend.
Owner Robert Hitchcock fought off competition from a number of other dogs to scoop the coveted prize.
And 39-year-old Mr Hitchcock was left beaming with pride at his and Chris’ performance at the world-famous Crufts.
“Pugs are my main breed, but I have never won with one before,” he said.
“I am really pleased to have come to Crufts this year with Tinchy, who is such a youngster, and won Best of Breed.
“It is the biggest dog show in the world and it is always amazing to be showing here.”
Also named as best in breed was Heage restaurant manager Hayley McCallum and Guy, a five-year-old Havanese.
Twenty-four-year-old Hayley, who works at Jamie’s Italian restaurant said: “I love Crufts, I have been coming since I was a nine-years-old and have been a handler for the past 15 years, it is always a special show.
“I’m really pleased with Guy as we were the only English competitors in our group, so we feel as if we are flying the flag a little bit!
“I am very proud to win Best of Breed again and will be coming next year, but even if we don’t win it is a great show.”
Karen Sykes, from Belper, and her 11-year-old sheepdog Fly were awarded second prize heelwork to music competition.
