Trio out-step competition to land roles in top ballet

A trio of talented young dancers from Belper have out-stepped more than 250 hopefuls to land a part in a top ballet production.

Joshua Pegg, 12, Robyn Wilkinson,12, and Lucy Cockcroft nine , have been selected to appear in a magical production of The Nutcracker at the Nottingham Theatre Royal, performing with the English Youth Ballet (EYB).

Appearing on stage alongside EYB’s professional international artists they will star in three performances from July 25 to July 26.

Oliver Speers, who plays the Nutcracker Prince, said: “There is such a wonderful team spirit in the young company.

“Working in a professional environment gives the students a unique insight into life in a ballet company.

“They are so lucky – I wish there had been something like EYB when I was training! I find them pretty inspiring!”

Lucy, who attends St John’s C of E Primary, Belper, and trains at Caroline Green School of Dance & Drama along with Belper School students Lucy and Robyn underwent 10 days of intensive training to prepare for their role.

Performances take place at 7.30pm on Friday, and then at 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday. Call the box office for details on 0115 9895555.
