Triumphant return for cycling brothers

Two brothers are preparing to make a triumphant return to Ambergate after completing a 10,000-mile charity cycling adventure.

Last July, Stuart and Chris Marshall set off on their trusty bikes to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in aid of TEACH (Time to Educate Africa’s Children),

Along the way, the pair encountered some of the harshest cycling terrains on earth as they journeyed through Europe, central Asia, China, and South East Asia.

As the Belper News went to press the pair were 80 miles from the finish line in the village of Tan Minh.

Now their friends and family have organised a film matinee at Belper’s Ritz Cinema to celebrate their impending return and raise more cash for the brothers’ chosen charity.

The fundraiser will be held two days before the intrepid duo arrive back home on January 29.

Stuart said: “It feels weird knowing that we’ll be going home soon having been on the road for so long.

“Also, as the trip has been so amazing, I don’t know if I want to go home yet.

“Every day we get up and have an adventure, we never know what we will see, or who we will meet.

“You never know what will happen on the road.”

The pair have faced everything from -28C temperatures in Xinjiang, China to broken wheel rims in Romania and missing Christmas to cycle 150km to the Kunming border.

However, they have battled on to complete their challenge ahead of target and have so far had £2,500 pledged on their fundraising website, with much more expected to be donated in the coming weeks before they announce their final total.

A screening of a film chosen specially by Chris and Stuart – Into the Wild – with a video greeting from the brothers, is now set to be held from 1pm on January 27, with a buffet afterwards at the nearby Greenhouse pub.

Entry is £10, to be paid on the day, which includes drinks and nibbles.

The film should start at around 1.30pm.

Anyone interested in attending or for more information, email chris@teachafrica.org.uk or call/text 07772 211 619.

Seats will be allocated for the event on a first come first served basis.
