VIDEO: St George's day in Belper
Belper folk lined the streets to show their support for English patriotism this weekend.
Scouts and Guides paraded through the town centre and attended special church services on Sunday, April 26, to mark St George's Day.
Residents and town officials also took part in the services, at St Peter's Church, on Chesterfield Road, and the Central Methodist Church, on Chapel Street, and joined the procession down King Street.
Belper Town Council invested around 400 in flags and bunting to go up around the town centre in a bid to celebrate the town's Englishness
Council leader John Nelson, who was particularly keen for Belper to fly the flag for England, said: "It was a brilliant day. I've never seen so many young people in the town in my life. The parade was really well organised.
"The flags and bunting looked wonderful. The response from the people of Belper was tremendous. It most definitely helped everybody get into the spirit."
He added the town council plans to build on the success of the celebrations next year.
Schools in the town also got into the spirit of St George's Day, on Thursday, April 23.
Children at St John's Primary School, on Laund Nook, dressed up as dragons, princesses and St George for the day to raise money for equipment in a school in Africa.
A spokeswoman for the school said: "The children were very enthusiastic."
