Woman fights off mugger

A woman fought off a would-be mugger who tried to snatch her bag in Holbrook with a bag of meat.

The 29-year-old hit back after being targeted on the junction of Makeney Road and Pond Lane in the village.

As her attacker grabbed for her handbag she span around and burned his cheek with her cigarette.

She then hit him around the head with her shopping and he ran off.

The attempted theft happened between 2.10pm and 2.35pm on Saturday, March 9 on the junction of Makeney Road and Pond Lane in the village.

The assailant is described as white, about 5’ 10” tall and of skinny build.

He was in his late teens or early 20s and was wearing a green waterproof coat, blue jeans, white trainers and a black beanie hat.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said: “A 29- year-old local woman was walking home when a man approached her and tugged at her bag.

“As she swung round she caught him with her cigarette and burned his cheek. She then hit him around the head with a bag containing meat and he ran off.”

Latest figures show there were eight crimes in Holbrook in January- six of which related to anti-social behaviour.
