a CARING community midwife who works in Belper has narrowly missed out on being named the best in the country.

Margaret Hirst featured in the News last month after she was named the North of England’s regional winner of the Johnson’s Baby Mums’ Midwife of the Year accolade.

But the top honour escaped her when she went up against five other regional winners at the Royal College of Midwives’ (RCM) Annual Midwifery Awards.

Margaret, who works at Babington Hospital, won the regional award after being nominated by Heanor mum Gemma Richardson. Gemma said Margaret supported her when she lost her daughter at 37 weeks and then throughout her next pregnancy with her son, Sam.

Margaret was rewarded for putting her mums first and providing excellent care in her role with Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
