THE NAMES of two servicemen from Horsley Woodhouse who died after 1945 have been added to a war memorial.
A plaque featuring the names of Gunner Sidney Parker, of the Royal Artillery, and Acting Pilot Officer George Nicholson was added to the site at Sitwell Memorial Recreation Ground.
It was paid for by Horsley Woodhouse Parish Council.
Council chairman Eric Lancashire said: The parish council has been agonising for a few years about how to recognise these people.
“At long last they have this tribute.”
While serving in the Far East during the Second World War, Mr Parker contracted a disease.
He died in 1948, aged 29.
Mr Nicholson was just 22 when he died. It happened on his last training flight, in Scotland, in 1953 before he was due to become a full flight officer.
The addition of the names to the memorial was part of the Remembrance commemorations in Horsley Woodhouse earlier this month.
