National Trust treats for 2013

National Trust places across Derbyshire are revealing new stories, secrets and spaces for 2013.

There are new walks to enjoy and fresh views to take in, new recipes to try, untold stories to hear and the chance to see some of the amazing objects in the trust’s collection and parts of the organisation’s places that are normally hidden from view.

“Many of the special places we care for in Derbyshire are hundreds of years old but we are constantly discovering new aspects to their stories that we want to share with our visitors,” said Beccy Speight, National Trust director for the Midlands.

“Whether people already know and love these places, or they’re visiting for the first time, we’re confident they’ll discover something new and exciting this year.”

Visitors to Calke Abbey can explore the lost landscape of the limeyards, once the site of a bustling industry, on a new discovery trail.

The team at Hardwick Hall are inviting people to join them as they go round closing curtains and turning off lights on a new end of day tour.

Visitors to Kedleston Hall can enjoy a meal in Kedleston’s newly refurbished restaurant, while new objects will be on display in the Museum of Childhood at Sudbury Hall.

Once a month, visitors will also be able to visit the normally-closed Chintz Bedroom to find out more about the trust’s conservation work.
