New centre is opened

A £1 MILLION workshop and learning centre at the Crich Tramway Village opened yesterday, July 26.

The George Stephenson Workshop Discovery and Learning Centre was paid for with cash from the Heritage Lottery fund.

Glynn Wilton, museum curator and head of the project, said: “The new worskhop and learning centre has not only preserved a unique, historically important building but has also created a visitor hub and exhibition space and provided a valuable new learning facility.”

The new centre, which was originally built in 1841 and used as a smithy and wagon works, was officially opened by Cllr Andrew Lewer, the leader of Derbyshire County Council.
