THE Olympics were the theme for this year’s Duffield Carnival, with the area’s very own Olympian, Ross Daveport, taking time out of his preparations to open the event.
On Saturday (June 23) a colourful procession made its way through the village before arriving at Eyes Meadow.
Ross, part of the 38 strong Team GB swimming team currently in training for the London 2012 Olympics then officially launched the event, having taken special leave to attend.
A full carnival then kicked-in with the presentation of shields by Carnival Princess, Alice Weeds and her attendants, Annabel Jarvis and Ruby Price.
Gerard Varin, who ran 806 miles from Duffield to Switzerland over 31 days was also presented with a cheque in aid two breast cancer charities.
In the evening a music festival was held featuring the likes of Hey Beatles and Dead Cats Revenge.
The celebrations represented a pinnacle to events taking place through June and into July, including a family barbecue and treasure hunt.
