THE 2012 London Olympics was brought to life for schoolchildren in Belper when they received a special visitor.
Olympic mascot Wenlock went along to Belper Leisure Centre to greet pupils and have a photograph taken with them.
Every school in Amber Valley was invited to take part in the event.
Phil Basterfield, partnership development manager for Amber Valley, said: “This visit officially kick-started the Olympics in Amber Valley.
“Wenlock’s visit was a fantastic experience for the pupils involved and helped to bring the Games to life.”
David Joy, director of Derbyshire Sport, said: “Wenlock’s visit was a fantastic opportunity for young people in Belper to feel a part of the build up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We hope that people of all ages will be inspired by the Games and motivated to try a new sport, and play a part in Derbyshire’s 2012 legacy.”
