Open gardens help raise charity cash

More than 200 people visited two gardens in Belper at the weekend as part of a national charity event.

Kathy Fairweather opened her garden in Windmill Rise, raising £800 for Marie Curie Cancer Care, Macmillan and a Derby bereavement counselling service.

Meanwhile, Jim and Brenda Stannering, of Wyver Lane, welcomed 60 visitors to their home as part of the National Gardens Scheme event and their grand-daughter Sarah Olney served refreshments for a charity trip to India she is embarking on next year.

More than 800 gardens were opened across the UK on Sunday to raise cash.
