a NEW book club has been launched by a local poet at the Strutts Centre in Belper.

Founder Siobhan Fennell said: “It’s an exciting way to share reading as a hobby and a wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded friends. I love to be able to pass books on and hear what people make of them.” The group already has eight members which Siobhan says is “a good number so everyone gets a chance to participate.”

Siobhan, 42, who has a post-graduate diploma in creative writing and has written all her life, has recently hit upon a way of harnessing her talents as a wordsmith for a good cause. She is in the process of setting up Snowdrop Poetry – a website where people can buy personalised poems with all the proceeds going towards Comic Relief. She said: “People fill in a detailed questionnaire – answering questions about significant events and giving me as much information as they can about themselves. And I will make a poem for them.”

“I write a lot of poems for family and friends and one of my sisters suggested it while we were at a wedding.”
