A NEW £59,000 play area that has been designed by children has been officially unveiled in Bargate.

The Bargate play area, on Bargate Road, received the cash boost from Amber Valley Borough Council and Derbyshire County Council after youngsters said it needed a facelift.

Children were asked what should be in the play area and opted for football goals, a zip wire, climbing walls and more swing-related equipment. Cllr Stuart Bradford, Leader of Amber Valley Borough Council said: “It seemed only right that the play area, which was in a very tired and worn state, should receive a boost.

“The facility will last for generations.”
