AN EXPLOSION left 2,602 homes and businesses in Belper without power at some point for more than six hours.
A jumper — the spiral-shaped things that are seen on power lines — on a power line on Kilburn Road overloaded and exploded on Sunday at about 9.40pm.
A spokeswoman for electricity provider Western Power said: “It was a minor explosion with just a few sparks.”
Power to 244 properties went off at 10.10pm and then fluctuated between on and off until 4.21am. At its peak, the power cut affected 2,208 properties for almost two hours.
As few as 56 properties were without power between 12.01am and 2.52am.
Street lights were also affected.
