A prolific Belper thief has been jailed for a total of 30 weeks after he stole from a shop just weeks after being given a suspended sentence.
Stuart Anscomb, 40, of High Street admitted stealing a bottle of vodka from Home Bargains, Belper on July 22 during a hearing at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court.
He also pleaded guilty to breaching a suspended sentence which he was given on June 20.
Previously he had avoided jail after being convicted of stealing: two cans of Lynx deodrant belonging to The Cooperative Retail Group; eight cans of Lynx deodrant belonging to Wilkinsons; 17 cans of Lynx deodrant belonging to The Cooperative Retail Group; a purse; a bottle of perfume, to the value of £9.99, belonging to Lloyds Pharmacy and meat, to the value of £9.44, belonging to Co-Op.
All of those offences took place between October 18, 2013 and June 4 this year in Belper.
However, following his latest theft Anscomb was told he would serve 22 weeks of the 26 weeks he previously sentenced to, plus a further eight weeks for stealing the vodka.
In last week’s Belper News we told how Derbyshire Police had issued 12 CCTV images of shoplifting in Amber Valley and said theft from shops over the last few months of this financial year had risen by 16 per cent.
