A ‘VINTAGE’ country pub in Shottle Gate is on the lookout for budding poets to represent the region in a national competition backed by former poet laureate Sir Andrew Motion.
The Hanging Gate, on Ashbourne Road, is inviting people to co-author an eight-line poem inspired by Sir Andrew’s work on Vintage Inns’ latest national campaign, which is honouring the Great British rural pub.
Over seven weeks, Sir Andrew is judging the best line submitted each week so they can gradually complete the verse. Submissions will close at 5pm each Thursday until November 24.
The first line is: ‘The muted brilliance of autumn leaves....’. The competition is being hosted at www.facebook.com/vintageinns.
