GREEN-FINGERED children at a Belper school are growing for the future thanks to their own vegetable patch.
With help from the Rotary Club of Belper and Duffield, youngsters at St John’s Primary School have planted a variety of vegetables, including potatoes, carrots, peas, lettuce and various beans.
Dave Ashley, a Rotary member, agreed to help out with the planting after a request from teacher Zoe Smallman.
He noticed a shortage of certain equipment, compost and other items so the Rotary Club donated £50.
Mrs Smallman said: “The children have had great fun working in the garden. We are really grateful to Dave and the Rotary Club for their support with this project.”
