FATHER Christmas helped a popular tourist attraction in Heage raise more than £1,200.

Heage Windmill welcomed Santa after he had been taken on a tour of the village by his pony Whisky.

And while Whisky tucked into his treat of a bag of carrots, Santa got to work on meeting the 180 children who came along to see him at the Chesterfield Road venue.

Alan Gifford, of the Heage Windmill Society, said: “The children were telling him of their Christmas Day needs. They all received a small early Christmas present.”

Parents enjoyed hot drinks and refreshments, as well as playing various games to win prizes. Alan added: “The day was a great success.”

The money raised will go towards maintenance of the mill over the coming months, before it re-opens to the public on April 1.
