SIX Belper Scouts are celebrating after winning top awards.

Bevan Cope, Charlotte Holloway, Josh Donnell, Trent Pickering, Matthew Holloway and Ed Green from the 1st Alton Manor Scout Group, Belper District, have recently been awarded their Chief Gold Scout Award - the highest award that a Scout can achieve. Scout Leader Darren Barnes said: “I’m very proud. They have to work hard and do it for themselves. A lot of the time they are encouraged to be self-sufficient. It’s the ultimate goal for every Scout.”

The Scouts had to successfully complete eight out of a possible nine challenges, which included outdoor expeditions and camping skills, like making gadgets from branches. There will be a presentation night early next year. The troop, which has 28 Scouts, aged from ten and half to 14, meet on a Tuesday night from 7pm at The Fleet Art Centre, Belper.
