MORE than £250 was raised at a musical event in Belper to show how much talent there is in the town.

The Belper Showcase concert was at the Strutts Centre, Derby Road, and featured singing, music and poetry.

Sadie Maher, a young guitarist from Belper who goes to Woodlands School in Allestree, performed indie love songs and Fleetwood Mac covers. Belper-based poet Leo Swarveet read some of his work accompanied by son Kai on guitar.

The Cantilena trio presented a mixture of flute and piano pieces, including the waltz from Tchaikovsky’s ballet ‘The Nutcracker’.

Belper School pupil Alex Lewis, who is a member of the newly-formed Belper Boys’ Choir, sang a variety of beautiful numbers. The evening was rounded off with Elin Heron’s Welsh folk group.

The money raised will go towards maintenance and support of Strutts.
